P – PARTICIPATION
The effective administrator participates in school activities and encourages teamwork. She or He does not make decisions alone but asks people what to do, how to do, when to do and approves their suggestions. One or more processes in which an individual or group takes part in specific decision-making and action, and over which they may exercise specific controls. It refers specifically to processes in which primary stakeholders take an active part in planning and decision-making, implementation, learning, and evaluation. This often has the intention of sharing control over the resources generated and responsibility for their future use. Team members have the experience and creative thinking that will be needed to ensure the attainment of each deliverable.
Q – QUALITY
Good quality education is one that provides all learners with the capabilities they require to become economically productive, develop sustainable livelihoods, contribute to peaceful and democratic societies and enhance individual well-being. The learning outcomes that are required vary according to context but at the end of the basic education, the cycle must include threshold levels of literacy and numeracy, basic scientific knowledge, and life skills including awareness and prevention of disease. Capacity development to improve the quality of teachers and other education stakeholders is crucial throughout this process."
- Six Crucial Dimensions of Quality Education
Quality education is a crucial factor in combating poverty and inequality in society. In quality education, is been distinguishes six dimensions that all interventions of the organization need to meet.
Educational change processes often need time to be realized. By enhancing the capacities of local education authorities, VVOB aims to institutionalize these processes.
This term refers to non-discrimination and equity. Equity in education means that personal and social circumstances such as gender, ethnic origin, or family background are not obstacles to achieving educational potential and that all individuals reach at least a basic minimum level of skills. VVOB in particular focuses on gender equity.
- Contextualization and Relevance
Quality education cannot be based on a blueprint that is applicable in all situations. Solutions and adaptations of education systems must be based on the real needs of a country and/or community. Child-friendly Teaching and Learning
Quality education puts the child in the center and helps it to reach his or her full potential. Quality Education requires children’s active participation.
Quality education aims at developing a balanced set of capabilities of children they require to become economically productive, develop sustainable livelihoods, contribute to peaceful and democratic societies and enhance individual well-being.
After completing a certain level of education, children must have developed a minimum standard of skills. Quality education requires a results-oriented approach.
R - RESPECT
As an administrator, you should not expect every student, parent, or teacher to like you. You are in a position where it is virtually impossible not to ruffle feathers. The key is earning respect. Respect will go a long way in helping you handle issues in the school. A lot of respect will be earned if you can prove to be both consistent and fair in your discipline decisions.
For example, if a student commits a particular discipline infraction and you give out punishment, then it should be handled similarly when another student commits a similar offense. The exception to this is if the student has had multiple infractions or is a consistent discipline problem, then you may have to up the consequences accordingly.
S – SYSTEMATIC APPROACH
The system approach is a systematic attempt to coordinate all aspects of a problem towards specific objectives. Webster’s dictionary defines a system as “a regularly interacting or independent group of items forming a unified whole.” The characteristics of a system may be explained with the help of an example – various parts of the digestive system may be called components of the digestive system. Every component of the digestive system contributes to supports the functioning of the digestive system as a whole.
In the context of education, a system is a unit as a whole incorporating all its aspects and parts, namely, pupils, teachers, curriculum, content, and evaluation of instructional objectives. The teaching-learning process is viewed as communication and control taking place between the components of a system. In this case, the system is composed of a teacher, a student, and a program of instruction, all in a particular pattern of interaction.
The System Approach focuses first upon the learner and then course content, learning experiences, and effective media and instructional strategies. Such a system incorporates within itself the capability of providing continuous self-correction and improvement. It is concerned with all elements of instruction including media, including hardware, and software. Its purpose is to ensure that the components of the organic whole will be available with the proper characteristics at the proper time to contribute to the total system fulfilling the objectives.
In the systems approach to instruction, the teacher has to plan completely the utilization of selected resource material and the classroom activities. The teacher should have a good overall view of the subject, know his/her limitations, know all about his/her pupils and the individual differences in their learning capacities and plan accordingly. The system approach involves continuous evaluation of learning outcomes and utilization of knowledge gained by analysis of results of the evaluation to suitably modifying the plan of approach to achieve the stated objectives.
Major steps in the systems approach in education are:
-
Formulating specific instructional objectives to be achieved and defining instructional goals,
-
Deciding appropriate media achieve these goals,
-
Defining learner characteristics and requirements,
-
Selecting appropriate methods suitable for effective learning to take place,
-
Selecting appropriate learning experiences from available alternatives,
-
Selecting appropriate materials and tools required,
-
Assigning appropriate personal roles for teachers, students, and supporting staff,
-
Implementing the program,
-
Evaluating the outcome in terms of original objectives measured in student performance and
-
Revising to improve the efficiency of the system to improve students’ learning.
